

An illuminated LED kite about to take flight during BIKF 2025
BINTULU (Sept 19): The 18th Borneo International Kite Festival (BIKF) here is set to dazzle attendees with its captivating new feature, the night-time LED kite-flying event.
According to the festival’s chief coordinator, Donita Abdullah, this spectacle is scheduled at 8pm at the old Bintulu Airport site.
Daytime kite-flying activities would proceed as usual until 6pm, followed by a short break leading into the evening’s main attraction, she added.
“The response to the LED kite event has been very encouraging, with many visitors eager to witness the colourful illuminated kites against the night sky,” said Donita, also the acting Public Relations Section Manager of Bintulu Development Authority (BDA).
“We welcome the public not only to enjoy the daytime kite-flying, but also the stunning beauty of the LED kites after dark.”
Themed ‘Bintulu’s Most Iconic Event’, BIKF 2025 has recorded participation from 29 countries including Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Austria, Haiti, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Scotland, the Netherlands, South Korea, India, Oman, Russia, Turkey, France, Italy, Greece, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, the UK, Brazil, Estonia, Canada and Australia.
The festival also boasts a strong local contingent, with members coming from all across Malaysia.
Beyond the kite-flying, visitors can also enjoy a variety of side attractions, including live entertainment shows and numerous food stalls.
